I really thought I had enough to make it around the 8” this time… but nope.

It’s a delicate dance: just enough buttercream to make it around the rim, but not so much that I can’t hold the bag without my wrist giving out halfway through.

Have you ever known someone who’s 99 years old? My Opa is the most seasoned soul I’ve ever known - and perhaps ever will. I think about his life - all that he’s seen, all that he’s experienced. The world has changed so much in 99 years - and he’s lived through it all: the love, the loss, the wars, the celebrations, the heartbreaks, the milestones. A lifetime of memories, woven through nearly a century.
It’s extraordinary. And humbling.
Yesterday we celebrated this handsome man - my Opa, Herbert - a strong but tender soul who’s done some of the greatest things for me in my life. He has been one of my greatest gifts, and I will forever be grateful for him.

This ruffle tip is my second favourite. 💞
It has a delicate groove that adds the tiniest extra detail to each pleat. A subtle design twist you might not catch at first, but it completely elevates the finish.

You know when a blouse looks simple.. but then you notice the stitching, the texture, the way it falls- and suddenly it feels designer?
Yeah. It’s giving that.

Ok y’all, don’t come at me, but I do not spend a lot of time making my final coat perfectly sleek and smooth. And here’s why: that ultra-smooth, polished look? It’s giving filler. And like filler - when overdone, everyone (or in this case, every cake) starts to look the same and it’s just SO boring. It completely takes away the originality!

I LOVE the texture. The movement - dare I say, I even love a few air bubbles.
Every stroke of the buttercream adds depth - like it’s been carved by hand.
A customer once described her cake as looking like a glorious stone sculpture - she was in love.
And I took that as the highest compliment.✨

I mean, Michelangelo believed sculpture was about revealing the soul within the stone.
He once said, “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.”
His figures often had texture, tension and even unfinished elements - because he wasn’t striving for perfection in a modern, polished sense. He carved to bring something to life - not to smooth it into silence.

That’s what I want for my cakes. Not identical. Not airbrushed. Not same-same.
A little wild. A little imperfect. A one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
